In Sweden I know that the rules vary a lot. In my unit we have the following rules.

  • Personel who handle the goods wear special clothes and caps. No jewellery on the hands are allowed.
  • Technical service personel can wear their normal working clothes.
  • Casual visitors wear a protective gown and cap in case they will visit the cleaning- packaging- or storage rooms.
  • Casual visitors who only visit the office area can wear their normal working clothes or private clothes.

In all cases no special shoes are required.

As to my perception anyone walking into a clean area with street/casual clothes carry abundant microorganism. I am afraid of introducing facultative microorganisms and also microorganisms which are air bone within the hospital which can be easily dispersed this way. Thus, its better to have a new disposable personal protective wear always when one enters a clean area.To my personal preference i would wear disposable TYVEK* body suit and also wear head and shoe covers.
