Subject: B-D Cycle

Dear Sirs,

I have one question: Is it necessary to run B-D cycle before start a LTSF cycle (80C) on a combine model (the sterilizer equipped with both steam sterilization cycles and low temperature steam formaldehyde sterilization cycles)?
As my understanding, B-D cycle aims to test machine's vacuum function. Because the ltsf cycle runs at subatmospheric condition, so it seems B-D cycle is needed.

Then two further questions come:

  1. It will take lots of time for standby phase because it switches from high temperature (134C) to low temperature (80).
  2. How about ETO sterilizer? Does it run B-D test?

Please give me some suggestions, thank you!

Hello!

The BDT - or better: Steam Penetration Test - is only intended to be used with pure steam sterilization cycles. It is not "just" a test for the efficiency of the sterilizer's vacuum system, but for the overall capabilities to replace air with steam. I leave the BDT topic here as it has been discussed quite extensively in the forum already.

For LTSF and EtO specific test methods have been developed and used for many years, such as can be found in EN or ISO standards. Please have a look in the "CEN Standards" section.

Kind regards
Klaus Hahnen
