Subject: European standard (EN standard) for Alcohol Wipes or pads

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are trying to determine what European standard (EN standard) is applicable for Alcohol Wipes or pads to be used to sterilize a small section of the body to prepare a patient for an injection. The alcohol used on the wipes is 70% isoproplique.

We would appreciate it if we could receives this information from you.

Thank you,

Regards,

Dear Mr. Glaser

I think the desinfection (not the sterilisation) of a part of the skin before injection of a drug is comparable with a handrub with alcoholic solutions. In both cases you reduce the bacteria on the skin. The demands on such products you can find in EN 12054 (hygienic handrub) included EN 1500.
Your product shall demonstrate a reduction of 5 log in viable count at 1 or better 0,5 min. For alcohol in concentrations between 60-80% no problem.
See also the PowerPoint presentation of Prof. M. Rotter from Vienna. You will find it at
