What are the recommendations for sterilization of orthopedic prosthesis? is gamma irradiation preferred over other methods? could a prosthesis that was not implanted in a patient be re-sterilized?
Thanks

Sterilization method of orthopedic implants is chosen according to material specification. For example: Implant sterilization can adversely impact the wear properties of Ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Re-sterilization of orthopedic implants, that were not implanted (opened but not used) is forbidden, unless the manufacturer has stated otherwise.
