Subject: Sterilizing batteries with no drytime

some please help me! I am having a problem with a hospital who is telling me they can't skip the drytime on there autoclave. I know nothing about autoclaves but they are telling me it's dangerous to skip the dry time. Anyone have any ideas on how to convince them that it is okay to abort the dry cycle.
Thanks

The first thing that hits me when I read your comment was - you know nothing about autoclave but you want to convince people who do know about autoclaves to go against their local practices. This I would suggest is unsafe practice for someone with no experience in autoclaves to be demanding. I suggest you listen to the professionals.

Hello!

It would be easier to answer your question, if you could give some background, e.g. it would be very interesting to know, why do you want them to skip the drying stage?

Kind regards
Klaus H.

They must skip the dry cycle because exposure to heat kills the batteries. Most of the facilities that use them don't have a problem or they do a 1min dry cycle. Thanks for everyones positive feed back.

Dear Rashelle,

The real problem is that any package that is wet should be considered contaminated because moisture acts as a vehicle to carry microorganisms inside the pack.
That's why in instrument sterilization we can't skip the drying time.
You have to take this into account and decide in consultation with the sterilization department what's the solution to have your batteries sterilized and to keep them sterile.

The company we get our batteries from recommends no dry time.
We were flashing them in the O.R. before the surgery cases started.
I have recently acquired info from the company that you sterilze the batteries in the Sterrad. This has worked out much better than steam strilization and it also gives the battery a longer life.
