in Europe it is forbidden to resterilise any implant.
no hospital can guaranty the good cleaning ang sterilisation under the same conditions as it is done in a factory, because this proces is not validated.
if you must validate all loadings on your steriliser it will be a very expensive proces.

and now...why these strict rules...???
no one knows what happened to any openend packing of an implant thats offered to the CS for resterilisation.
read for exemple the answer to question Q00466 concerning a breast implant question

Hello Loretta

It is important to realize that today, Orthopedic implants are manufactured from a variety of material, material combination and modifiation. Hence for implants provided non-sterile it is essential that handling and sterilization cycle/methods are provided by the manufacturers inclusive notification of processes that need to be avoided to prevent adverse effects to the implant. If the manufacturer does not have this information readily available, it is the responsibility of the person in charge (CSSD/OR Manager/Doctor) to ask for, and keep it on file. If the necessary information is not available, the instrument/implant should not be purchased and most devinitely not be used.

Kind regards
Josy Holdener
