#1 When was the first steam autoclave used

#2 where is the best place to place an indicator with-in a set of instruments that is to be wrapped and autoclaved for future use?

The first autoclave was invented in 1884.
The chemical indicator should be placed in that area of a package considered to be the least accessible to sterilization agent penetration. That area may or may not be the center of the package.
