Are vinyl faced ceiling tiles acceptable throughout the CSSD or should some areas have flush plasterboard/sealed ceilings?

Dear Renee,

CSSD work area should be constructed to create a flush with recessed, enclosed fixture/ceilings should be constructed of materials that are not of a particulate or fiber shedding composition. A finished ceiling with enclosed fixture limits condensation, dust accumulation and other possible sources of contamination.

I hope it helps,

Dear Yaffa Raz
Thank you for your reply. I take it from your reply that vynil faced tiles are not recommended in the CSSD work area. Is there a particular type of product that you can recommend that has the attributes you mention?

Dear Renée

My answer did not imply that vinyl in not a accepted material for CSSD. If vinyl in not fiber shading, if it is not accumulating dust (more than other materials) and it does not have the tendency to create condensation, then it could be a proper material. A few years ago, when my department was renovated, I presented the architects with above mentioned and other specifications and standards for CSSD. The architects were able to choose from a variety of materials the ones that are suitable for CSSD.
