Subject: Cleaning of Phaco tubes

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me how to clean the tubes of a Phaco set (eye surgery)?
The manufacture instructions are to only use distilled water, and no detergent...
It doesn’t look right!
Thanks!
Noam

at the Medisafe site you will make the discovery of the PICO phaco washing machine.
at the moment my collega has a machine for an try out.
i let you know later what the results are.

at the WIP site (www.wip.nl) you can see in the english section (wip is a dutch site about prevention of hospital infections) a search engine.
If you search for oftamic things you will find some work and cleaning instructions

recent scientific research indicated that to clean narrow lumen devices such as Ophthalmic instruments the machine would need very high flush pressure in the region of 2 bar... The Pico "Power Flush" has been designed around the parameters required to clean opthalmic instruments... see the link - or www.medisafe.uk.com

my experiance and practical as scrub nurse and cssd co-ordinatore in eye hosp is: i use suctione machine to clean the probe with the tip on and the tubes for a while then, then continue the process to remove the filterd water and air, then scrub all by a clean clothe soacked with alcohol, dry it, an finally packinge immediatly, and re-steralize.

Hi Noam,
I suggest you follow the manufacturer's instructions. They will have validated their cleaning instructions before placing the device onto the open market, and if you follow their instructions you will not be liable for potential harm that may come to a patient if for example there is detergent residue left in the device.
Kind regards,
Paul.
