According to standard precautions, every surgical/medical instrument that has been in use is considered infected. So, it should be treated like any other surgical instrument. Using protective gown, gloves and face/eyes shield, the instruments should be reprocessed with all the other instruments, arriving from operation theatre, as soon as possible after the surgical procedure has been finished. You can find more details about reprocessing of surgical instrument in the education section of this web site.
